DOMAINE PRIEURÉ ROCH - Pinoterie Pure Bourgogne Rouge 2017
This rare bottling is only produced in years when the ripe berries that fall naturally from the bunch on the sorting table are collected and blended together for this cuvée, the plots that contribute to this blend include Clos de Beze, Clos Vougeot, Les Suchot & Clos de Corvée!
The only red wine that does not see any stalks in the fermentation & the Pure reference is to the fact that the wine is bottled directly from the cask with no added sulphur.
There are years where the fickleness of the weather prevent the even ripening of all the grapes on the bunches, and as the grapes cannot be harvested before the stems themselves fully ripen, on these years any extra ripe grapes will detach themselves from the stem while on the “table de tri”(sorting table).
Since the traditional Burgundy vinification methods require the grapes to be fermented “entière” (in whole bunches) the loose berries are not used, despite being wonderfully ripe.
However, taking all of these loose berries from every vendange, every cuve, permits us to unite all of our best crus and create one “cuvée spéciale”.This “tri” (selection) has in effect been made by the grapes themselves hence the name Pinoterie (Pinot-tri).
Natures choice, ripe voluptuous fruit, sheer pleasure. At this time there have been only three vintages produced: 2010, 2011 and 2017.
The berries had thick skins due to plenty of sunshine during the growing season & the juice displayed gorgeous colour and soft, silky tannins. The vintage has produced wines of energy and vitality with some comparisons to the classic Burgundian vintage of 2010 & though approachable in their youth the Premier Cru & Grand Cru wines will evolve beautifully in a cool cellar for many years. The wines of PRIEURÉ ROCH are pure and unadulterated. Biodynamically managed vineyards - No chaptilisation. No additions. No fining. No filtration. No sulphur.
The distinctive "glyph" of the domaine is from Ancient Egypt and represents two yellow mouths (the devine, or natural, eye above the human eye) above three red "eggs", symbolising grapes. To the left is a papyrus leaf, representing both vegetation and the scribe, or record-keeper.
