Grassl Glass - Vigneron 1855
For wines that need air, space… and a moment to become something else.

Some wines don’t open.
They unfold.
Slowly.
Dramatically.
Like a story that refuses to be rushed.

The Grassl Vigneron 1855 is built exactly for that moment.

With its wide, flat-bottomed bowl, this isn’t just a wine glass. It’s an auxiliary decanter in disguise. Pour in a structured Bordeaux or a brooding Barolo, and watch what happens. Aromas stretch. Layers peel back. The wine evolves in real time, right under your nose.

Why the 1855 is a different beast

  • Designed for powerful, complex reds that need air to perform
  • Acts like a built-in decanter – no waiting, no second guessing
  • Unlocks depth in aged wines straight from the cellar
  • Wide bowl = maximum oxygen, maximum expression
  • Perfect for regions like Bordeaux, Napa Valley, Rhône, and Barossa

And yes, the name matters.

“1855” is a tribute to the historic classification at the Exposition Universelle de Paris 1855, where Bordeaux’s finest were ranked into legend. This glass follows that same philosophy: built for wines of serious pedigree.

Claret sings here.
Barolo gets deeper, darker, more layered.
Brunello? It stretches out like it finally has room to breathe.

This isn’t your everyday glass.
This is for bottles you’ve been saving.
The ones you don’t open casually.

If your wine has structure, age, and attitude… this is the glass it’s been waiting for.

All Grassl glasses are crafted from lead-free crystal. The glass is processed to be balanced, light and durable. Multiple heating & cooling cycles and tempering the mouth will give you the highest glass quality.

An oxy-fueled fired furnace melts glassmaking sand, soda, dolomite, potassium, potassium oxide and recycled glass. This 1700°C hot, lead-free molten mass resembles the composition of pure rock crystal.

Clean Grassl glasses by handwashing with warm water and a tiny amount of odourless dish soap, focusing on removing wine residue immediately to prevent stains. Rinse thoroughly, air dry, and polish with a lint-free microfiber cloth (like the Grassl Polishing Cloth) to maintain clarity.

Avoid extreme heat and harsh chemicals to protect the fragile crystal.

Handwashing Steps:
Rinse with warm water after use to prevent stains.
Use a small amount of odourless soap and a soft, non-abrasive sponge.
Use lukewarm water to ensure all detergent is removed.
Use a lint-free microfiber cloth to prevent water spots.

Polishing & Care Techniques:
To remove water spots, wet the glass, then use a polishing cloth to dry, holding the bowl while rotating the cloth inside.

Avoid Damage:
Never twist the bowl and stem in opposite directions to prevent breakage.

Storage:
Store in a dry area to prevent mould/odours, ideally in a protected case.

Vinegar Fix:
Use a mixture of water and white vinegar for stubborn stains.

Dishwasher Use:
If using a dishwasher, select a low-temperature cycle (under
45C or 113F) designed for glassware.
Ensure the machine has appropriate salt and rinse aid, and ensure glasses are securely placed without touching other items.

Our quality checks are meticulous and only the very best stems will make it into the customer's hands. All glasses that do not pass the inspections are 100% recyclable without a loss in purity and quality.

Surface vs Opening
Combination of a large surface with the convex walls towards the opening is ideal for delicate and balanced wines of medium to high complexity.

Pulled Stem
Made in one continuous piece of glass. More resistant to breakage.

Stability & Balance
Large base keeps the glass stable on uneven surfaces.
Acts as a counter weight to balance the overall glass.

Loves All Fine Wine.

Established in 2009, SIMPLY WINES has been searching the world over for hard to find wines.

Being Victorian, we do have a soft spot for regions like the Yarra Valley, Beechworth, Gippsland, Mornington Peninsula and Geelong. We still love classic South Australian Shiraz from the Clare Valley, Barossa, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra, and who can pass up some of the most prestigious wines in Australia from Margaret River in Western Australia.

Not forgetting Tasmania with the superb Pinot Noir and Riesling. Let's also mention the Hunter Valley and Canberra wine regions.
