"Awesome wine! It's one of the best shiraz in the country. There are only 10 x 6 bottles left. First in best dressed.

From the prime estate vineyard, planted in 1893, with an inimitable, Ralph Steadman label. The alcohol is 2.5% lower than that of the '08; it is beautifully supple, fresh and balanced, but retains the intensity, clarity and integrity of very old vine wine. Bravo. If only it had a screwcap."

Rated 97 points - James Halliday - 2009

"The exceptionally old vines from 1893 have produced a dark and uncompromisingly dense offering full of black fruits, charred meat, fennel and bitter chocolate; thickly textured, the wine is epic in every regard. This is a take no prisoners wine"
Rated 95 points - James Halliday - 2008

"Deep colour; a hilarious new label depicting said old bastard does not herald any change in the style of this wine, made from small estate block planted in 1893. Rich, supple and velvety, it is able to cary it's alcohol; It is chock-full of dark berry flavours. Drink to 2027"
Rated 95 points - James Halliday - AWC2007

The Old Bastard Shiraz ages beautifully, with the berry notes becoming more prominent over time. It has decades to give, cellar up to 20+ years.

Fruit was hand-picked and sourced from Shiraz vines planted in 1893. Matured in 35% new and the remainder in 1 year old French oak. The wine making procedure is a closely guarded secret, with innovative techniques as yet revealed to new world wine. But what we can tell you, is it was harvested by hand at the crack of dawn, when there was enough light shinning through the crystals, looking like an amazing rainbow across the small vineyard.

Vine Age: Shiraz vines planted in 1893
Alcohol: 14.5%
pH: 3.75

Loves All Fine Wine.

Established in 2009, SIMPLY WINES has been searching the world over for hard to find wines.

Being Victorian, we do have a soft spot for regions like the Yarra Valley, Beechworth, Gippsland, Mornington Peninsula and Geelong. We still love classic South Australian Shiraz from the Clare Valley, Barossa, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra, and who can pass up some of the most prestigious wines in Australia from Margaret River in Western Australia.

Not forgetting Tasmania with the superb Pinot Noir and Riesling. Let's also mention the Hunter Valley and Canberra wine regions.
